The Executive Director for Planning, Research and statistics in the board of the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Commission(DESOPADEC), Comrade Amb. Shedrack Agediga has obtained a doctorate degree to further steer the ship of peace building across the globe.
The workaholic Executive Director was conferred with a Doctor of Conflict Resolution degree (HONORIS CAUSA) by the Global Christian University, an affiliate of the Peoples International University in Germany.
In a conferment ceremony that took place on Saturday in Warri, Delta state, Rector of the institute, Prof. Phillip Ibiyeye, charged the award recipient to see his new status as a call to more duty.
Prof Ibiyeye stated that the conferment of a Doctor in Conflict Resolution on the Ogulagha born philanthropist is a furtherance of his gigantic antecedent as a peace builder within and outside Nigeria, the Niger Delta in particular.
“You must continue to uphold the tenets of the honour given to you and must work hard to make the universities proud even as we are not in doubt about your various capacities to deliver at any point in time,” Prof Ibiyeye told Agediga and his fellow awardee, Chief Isioma Okonta, an aide to the Delta State Government on Women development.
Agediga upon his conferment as a Doctor in Conflict Resolution, expressed appreciation to the institutes for the honour given him, while assuring all hands will be on deck to ensure that the responsibilities that comes with his latest statues are upheld.
Dr Agediga further made himself available towards supporting the programmes and activities of the university. He further promised to never betray the confidence the institution has in him, even as he expressed delight in being conferred with such a honor.
Dr Shedrack Agediga his renowned for his humanitarian gestures in building peace, education, human capital development, care for the less privilege and more.
He was an integral and pivotal in the the initiation of the ongoing Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP) for repentant Niger Delta militants in 2009, a move that has since returned peace and normalcy to the often volatile region.
Dr Agediga is the chairman of the prestigious Shedrack Agediga Foundation (SAF), an NGO known for transformations in dynamic dimensions.
He is also a recipient of distinguished international awards, including the prestigious Nelson Mandela centenary award, and a World Peace Ambassadorial award from the United Nations.
Welemu congratulates Agediga on Doctorate conferment
Meanwhile, the Interim Chairman of the Delta Ijaw Comrade Community, DICC, Comrade Welemu Williams has poured encomiums on Dr Agediga following his conferment as a Doctor of Conflict Resolution.
Welemu in a short statement after the event said; “You have been consistent and persistent in carrying the cross of peace building and this is another nail to that cross; a proof to show that the cross will never be dropped.
“Welemu who is a Personal Assistant aide to the DESOPADEC Executive Director on Student Affairs further stated “I have confidence and assurance that you’ll do more and touch more lives even with this honor. Congratulations sir.”
The event was graced by families, friends, political leaders and allies, youth leaders and core activists from across the Niger Delta.
