Today is a special day in the history of Nigeria, the giant of Africa.

Nigeria is marking its anniversary as a sovereign nation today, Friday 1st of October, 2021.

Though, it is not her first anniversary, it’s first of its kind as the great nation has never marked her 61st independence anniversary ever before.

Recall that today’s Federal Republic of Nigeria had been previously ruled by the British prior to October of 1960 when independence movement took place.

Similarly, every October 1st is a day off from work and school for a majority of the population.

Most businesses are also closed on this day as everyone joins in the celebration of his/ her country’s freedom day.
