Bauchi Police Arrest Army Personnel with Cannabis, Charms

During a stop and search operation in Bauchi, the Bauchi Command of the Nigeria Police paraded suspected army personnel in possession of 81 parcels of cannabis.

Umar Sanda, the State Commissioner of Police, told journalists on Tuesday at the Command headquarters in Bauchi that his men intercepted a Toyota Highlander vehicle driven by one Yusuf Gongpolai Adams of the Nigerian Army 145 Battalion, Abia State, who is currently enrolled in a development course at the Nigerian Army School of Environmental and Science Technology, Benue State.

“Since my appointment as Commissioner of Police, the Command’s efforts to stem the tides of crime and criminality in the state have been unwavering.”

“We have continued to execute our statutory mandate and have recorded remarkable successes in policing Bauchi State for our common good through professionalism and credible intelligence gathering.”

On 06/02/2022, at approximately 1200hrs, our Safer Highway Patrol along Bauchi-Darazo road, Bauchi State, while on routine Stop and Search, intercepted a Toyota Highlander vehicle driven by one Yusuf Gongpolai Adams.

“He said that he is attached to the Nigerian Army 145 Battalion, Abia State, and is currently on Development course at the Nigerian Army School of Environmental and Science Technology, Benue State.”

A thorough search was conducted, and 81 parcels of dry leaves suspected to be cannabis were discovered in his possession.

The suspect confessed to the crime while being interrogated.

Eighty-one (81) parcels of dry leaves suspected to be cannabis, one pair of army uniforms, two Michelin tyres, one Army helmet, and one bag containing some clothes and some charms were recovered from the suspect.

“Meanwhile, the investigation is ongoing, and the suspect will be turned over to the NDLEA,” he said.

However, the suspect claimed that he was unaware he was transporting contraband in his vehicle at the time of his arrest.
