Fire on Saturday, January 1, 2022, gutted a section of the Port Harcourt Refinery Company in Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State.

While the cause of the fire outbreak is still sketchy, the inferno reportedly lasted for less than an hour and has since been put out.

A source anonymously, said,” Yes it is true that there was a fire outbreak this morning. An operation was going on when it happened.

“There was minor damage because it was immediately contained. So no loss of lives or property,” he stated.

The Port Harcourt refinery is currently undergoing repairs and has gulped over $2billion dollars. The refinery built in 1965 was the first and largest refinery in the country.

Though the ongoing repairs are expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2022, the refinery has not been producing for a long time.
