The Uxbridge Magistrate Court in London has remanded Nigeria’s former Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu and his wife, Beatrice in prison.

The couple was arrested by Special Forces under the Metropolitan Police in Heathrow on Thursday following an alleged involvement in human trafficking and organ harvesting.

They were accused of trafficking a 15-year-old boy from Lagos to the UK in a bid to harvest his organ.

Prosecutors at the court said the Ekweremadu’s claimed the boy was taking to the UK to give him a better life, but the move was actually to harvest his organ.

The former Nigerian lawmaker reportedly procured a passport for the boy who he claimed was 21 years of age, but investigations revealed he was just 15 years old.

The Ekweremadu’s were set to carry out a kidney transplant for their daughter, who is diagnosed with a kidney-related ailment and has been on dialysis for sometime.

However, the organ was not harvested as the doctors cancelled the procedure after the boy truthfully disclosed his real age at the Royal Free hospital in the UK.

The prosecutors also accused the suspects of treating the boy like a slave until he escaped and found his way to the police. An investigation was then launched, which led to their arrest.

The suspects already surrendered their passports after the court denied their application for bail.

The were reportedly on their way to Istanbul, Turkey to seek for another organ as they were unable to harvest the organ of the little boy.

The prosecutors also stated that the sum of $20, 000 was found on Senator Ekweremadu at the point of arrest.

The presiding Magistrate ordered for them to be remand in custody till July 7 for the next hearing on the case.
