Former Manchester City star, Nigel De Jong has unveiled the coach to succeed the team’s present boss, Pep Guardiola.
The Dutch player identified the former Arsenal star, Patrick Vieira the top candidate to replace Guardiola at Etihad Stadium.
The Spanish manager joined the Sky Blues more than 5 years ago and his contract with the club terminates in 2023.
The 50-year-old has therefore suggested that he could part with the club at the expiration of the deal.
However, former Milan star, De Jong desires that Guardiola remains at the club just like Sir Alex Ferguson did at Man United.
Yet, he (De Jong) declared that he would like to see the former Juventus star, Vieira take up the role once Guardiola leaves.
Vieira is currently the manager of Crystal Palace and has led them to 11th on 23 points, with just a point behind Brighton in the ongoing league campaign.
Recall, the 45-year-old’ side have spanked the Cityzens in a 2-0 away victory in November, the team’s second league’s defeat of the season having first lost 1-0 to Tottenham in August.
Meanwhile, the former Barca manager has achieved enormous success at City having led them to 3 Premier League titles and 5 domestic trophies.
De Jong told Ladbrokes: “I’d love to see Guardiola in charge for another 5-10 years. I want him to have a similar spell to what Sir Alex Ferguson had at Manchester United, to really amplify his DNA into the club.”
“The one thing that’s always certain in football, though, as a manager, is that you’re going to move on; be it by getting sacked or by walking.”
“Patrick Vieira is always going to be a name that’s linked with the City job…the transition from player to coach is so different, but Patrick has so far enjoyed great success with Crystal Palace. He’s a number one contender for the Manchester City job for sure.”
