The Nigerian Navy, Central Naval Command (CNC) has revealed its on the move to stop the numerous threats by youths in the Niger Delta region particularly Delta State to attack oil and maritime facilities.
The Command in it’s bid tackle the threats, launched a 90-day maritime operation codenamed Operation Doubeni II over the weekend.
In a statement signed by the Information Officer of the CNC, Blessed Nuhu, the Command stated that the operation was initiated to reduce criminal maritime activities within it’s Area of Responsibility.
Nuhu further stated that the operation is meant to make the area crime-free for economic exploratory activities for enhanced national development.
On his part, Rear Admiral Saidu Garba, the Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) of the CNC, stated that “the operation was to consolidate on the impressive achievements recorded by the navy during the conduct of Operation Calm Waters activated in May 2019 to deter planned agitations within and around Nigerian’s maritime environment.”
Garba emphasized that the operation translated as Operation Calm Waters contributed to the reduction in reported incidents of sea robbery, piracy, illegal bunkering, smuggling, illegal refinery and other maritime crimes within Nigerian waters.
