New York Governor, Andrew Cuomo has resigned after an investigative inquiry found him guilty of sexually harassing multiple women.

The allegation brought an uproar of plans to impeach him. Before the impeachment plan materialized, Governor Andrew Cuomo took a bow and resigned as Governor of New York.

He apologized and tendered his resignation to the general public in a noon broadcast.

Why did the Governor resign?

The Independent investigation by the New York Attorney General’s office found that Mr. Cuomo, 63 years old, who is occupying the position of the Governor of New York, has sexually harassed 11 women, including state employees.

The women alleged that he made sexual comments, inappropriately touched or grabbed them, and kissed them without consent. The report led many prominent Democrats to withdraw their support from Mr. Cuomo.

These Democrats include Speaker of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi, Senate leader Chuck Schumer, and New York’s two U.S. senators.

What does Cuomo have to say?

Cuomo said that he never crossed the line with anyone in his mind, or maybe he didn’t realize the extent to which the bar has been drawn.

He also used the medium to “deeply, deeply” apologize to women who may have been offended by his actions. He added that the best way to help now is to step aside and let the government get back to governing, and therefore, his resignation.

Is it the End of Cuomo’s political career?

The resignation would be in effect in two weeks; it was a sad and scandalous end to Cuomo’s political career. It’s just a year after the Governor was highly commended for leadership during the darkest days of COVID-19, only to see it go down in the drain.

What has the Presidential Council said?

Mr. Biden, the President of the USA, told reporters at the White House. “I respect the decision he, Governor Cuomo, made.” The Press Secretary of White House Jen Psaki said the president had not contacted his old friend since the report was published. The president also did not have advanced knowledge of his planned resignation.

Who is Governor Cuomo’s replacement?

Lt. Governor Kathy Hochul is set to replace Governor Cuomo. She will become the first female Governor of the fourth most populous U.S. state in history.

She is a 62 years old Centrist Democrat from the Buffalo area of New York state. In 2014, the Lieutenant joined the Governor’s team.

She has held the largely ceremonial role of lieutenant governor. Although she was not part of Mr. Cuomo’s inner circle, he commended her on Tuesday as “smart and competent.”
