Governor Godwin Obaseki has mourned the sudden death of Comrade Sunny Osayande, the Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Edo State Council.
Daily Report Nigeria understands that the NLC Chairman died in the early hours of Sunday.
Barry Imade, the NLC’s Edo State Secretary, confirmed Osayande’s death in Benin.
He did not, however, go into detail about what caused the death.
“He died Saturday night,” he said. “The doctor is the only one who can say what caused his death,” Imade explained.
His death occurs ahead of the planned February 1, 2022, workers rally against the federal government of President Muhammadu Buhari’s proposed increase in the pump price of petroleum products.
Meanwhile, Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki has expressed his condolences on the death of Osayande.
In a statement, Obaseki expressed his condolences for the loss of a true comrade and icon of the Nigerian labor movement, whose selfless role in the maintenance of industrial harmony in Edo State will be remembered forever.
The governor praised late Osayande’s forthrightness, noting that he maintained a calm and balanced attitude toward government whenever labor disputes arose in the state.
He claimed that his upbeat attitude made the state’s public and civil service transformation a breeze.
The governor expressed his condolences to all workers in the state, the leadership and members of the NLC, as well as the late Comrade Osayande’s family and friends.
He prayed to God Almighty to grant the departed labor leader’s soul eternal life.
